Celebrating 35 YEARS of IMAGINATION!

heartCelebrating 35 YEARS of IMAGINATION's music!heart

The legendary sounds of funk soul group, Imagination, are back and drummer Errol Kennedy proves they have just as powerful groove as ever.

You will be guaranteed a flashback with enough music and lights to keep you going in the heat of the night that you'll most likely find yourself burning up and wondering was that just an illusion?

2016 is an important year in music history – 35 years since IMAGINATION's distinctive groovy bass-line sounds first hit the airwaves and gold lame hit the dance floors around the globe.... in fact it was 1981 when they released their chart-breaking platinum debut single (and also platinum debut album!) BODY TALK, which ultimately led the band to become the funk-soul-pop legends the name IMAGINATION is now known for over three decades later.

A significant milestone like this needs celebrating and so does Errol Kennedy, who is a producer also in addition to being the co-founder and drummer of the band. He will be releasing a BRAND NEW and UPBEAT POP single entitled “YOU CAN BE (All You Want To Be)”. The song is super uplifting and encourages people to follow their desires to become what they want to be.

Produced by Errol himself, he also co-wrote the song along with Mike Edmond, Patrick Brathwaite and Robert Taylor. Lead vocals by Rohan Reckord. Mixed by Paulo Silva & Errol Kennedy. Cover design by Kriss Höss (#KDeluxeLDN).

Released on 29/04/2016 (all major online stores and here).

Earlier this year, to let the legacy of IMAGINATION live on, Errol Kennedy also released a very special ”GREATEST HITS LIVE” album which he recorded when touring the UK with his own band during their UK tour in 2010-11.

The album features not just all of Imagination's hits like SO GOOD SO RIGHT, CHANGES, MUSIC AND LIGHTS, IN AND OUT OF LOVE, BURNING UP (to name but a few) and of course IMAGINATION's signature hit JUST AN ILLUSION but it also includes bonus tracks such as special instrumental versions and a fantastic live version of the new single YOU CAN BE (All You Want To Be).

So Preshus are raising heartbeats with new single release under own label Gemstone Records

“Jade and Sapphire are paving the way for younger generations to discover music and dance.”

- Leicester Caribbean Carnival 2008 SOUVENIR MAGAZINE -

Sisters Jade and Sapphire of So PreshUS are kicking off a promising future with their R’n’B debut single ‘Heartbeat’.

Having made a name for themselves in their hometown Leicester, the duo’s music has already been well received by BBC Radio Leicester where they were able to sing on air and got interviewed after winning a local music competition.

Ready to embark upon bigger endeavours, So PreshUS are now set to release their catchy R’n’B single ‘Heartbeat’ which draws upon influences ranging from Jazz to Hip Hop.

Jade and Sapphire are more than just two brilliant singers – the sisters know how to transform their ambition into an entrepreneurial spirit that allows their musical project to grow. Jade explains: “We sing, we rap, we dance and we write our own songs and choreograph our own moves. We have been doing it since we were little.” And as if that isn’t enough, So PreshUS have also launched their own record label Gemstone Records under which they will be releasing their single.

Like so many developing artists, So PreshUS know that making music requires dedication. The band has had days of going hungry in the past only so that they could afford to invest in their musical future. Their ambitions of becoming performers date back to their high school days: “We started asking head teachers if we could organise performances for school assemblies and if we could practice our dances in the classroom. This was around the time we began writing songs in the music block.”

So PreshUS focus on more than one musical genre. The sisters have developed a musical open mindedness that has led them to experiment with an eclectic range of different genres ranging  from dance, dubstep, grime and jazz to funk whilst wrapping it up in a soul/ pop/ R’n’B package which is both unique and powerful.

Having been inspired by Motown singers as well as 80s and 90s souls singers, Jade and Sapphire have started a musical collaboration that stands out. ‘Heartbeat’ is about the emotional rollercoaster that falling in love creates or as the girls put it: “Being head over heels about someone makes your heartbeat so bad, it needs adjusting.”

The single ‘Heartbeat’ is out on 30th April 2016.

Linah

Multifaceted pop songstress Linah is demonstrating her songwriting and production skills with her exhilarating debut single ‘This Is What You Get’

Having taught herself the art of mastering her own tracks in the studio as well as performing and writing them, Linah is a quirky young woman who impresses her audience with an extraordinary amount of energy and talent.  She supported American R&B artist Anthony Hamilton at the O2 in London in 2012 and is now ready to roll on to foster her own musical career.

‘This Is What You Get’ is a catchy pop song that the singer wrote about how relationships with boyfriends, family or friends can turn out to be difficult sometimes and the lyrics derived from there. “I started to think of all the times I’ve been in a relationship with someone who didn’t treat me the way I’d liked to have been treated”, she explains.

Linah hasn’t always been as outgoing as she is now. As a child, she suffered from speech impediment and severe anxiety which gave her a hard time at school. The singer mostly kept to herself and was only ever really comfortable around animals. “I got picked on throughout my school years and had no friends for a good few years”, she says. The hardship of not fitting in eventually propelled her to start making music. Linah remembers: “I started to teach myself how to sing at eight years of age by mimicking all these fabulous singers I heard on the radio. I really found solitude and home in music as I didn’t fit in anywhere and I sure didn’t want to!” Her talent and artistic characteristics have always been visible. At school she was once voted “Most Likely To Make It As A Singer”.

Like for so many young girls at the time, her first real musical inspiration and the reason she wanted to become a singer were the Spice Girls. However, it wasn’t until she discovered the king of pop, Michael Jackson, that her whole world would turn upside down and she’d give herself completely into working on a musical career for herself. “He hypnotised me! To me, he was a god of music. It seemed as though he was channelling the very source of sound and performing it to everyone of us in a language we could all understand!”

She drew a lot of inspiration from artists like James Brown or Diana Ross. But she has always been open to discovering new genres and remembers being a lot into bands like Rage Against The Machine at one point during her adolescence.

However, her love for catchy pop tunes has eventually taken over in the creation of her own songs.

The single ‘This Is What You Get’ is out on 3rd May 2016.

Weary

Described as a “talented chanteuse and citizen of the world [who] has a way with a musical phrase nearly unmatched by most of her peers” by the award-winning music website Soulbounce, Franklin is a multitalented singer who combines vocal savvy à la Whitney Houston with an activist heart.

As a follow-up to her captivating R’n’B song ‘Higher’, ‘Weary’ is a mystifyingly beautiful examination of the struggles that people go through in our day and age. Written and produced by Kwame Busia, the lyrics read: “Someone told you that you’ve got so much to give but you’re preoccupied with just trying to live.” Touching upon one of the most profound struggles that exist within human nature, ‘Weary’ is also an affirmation of hope which is so convincingly portrayed in Franklin’s vocal interpretation.

Jae’s artistic career goes a long way back to her High School days when she and her sister were in a band called Girls Tyme with former classmate Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland before the days of Destiny’s Child.  Born and raised in Houston, Texas, the singer eventually moved to Dubai where she has successfully honed her skills and managed to get noticed by the public eye with media coverage in the United Arab Emirates, the US and the UK.

Having always dreamed of broadening her artistic work and getting into the spheres of political activism, Jae would like to someday be able to become an ambassador for the UN Human Rights Council to raise awareness about refugee crises and social issues. She declares: “I would like to use my music as a platform for change and become a catalyst for change to heal the world and make a difference.”  Being an artist who values the opportunity to “give back” she has worked and performed for a variety of charities in the past. The social commentary in ‘Weary’ is yet another way for her to raise awareness and provoke thought in a world that is in desperate need for global solutions in terms of social justice.

‘Weary’ is out on 26th March 2016.
